RBC started to work on growing Everything Tech in 2017 with a focused project commencing in March 2020. As the founder, I always had an ambition to grow and sell but I just didn’t know how to do this. I knew I had the technical knowledge and entrepreneurial flair; I just didn’t have the commercial and people experience. The focused project lasted for 2 years in total before we successfully sold. The turnover impact lifted us from below £1m to an incredible £5m. We have received a number of Small Business Mentoring sessions over the years from RBC as they are such value for money. The only way I can describe a session with Ruth is like a whirlwind! She is so sharp; you would think she worked in your business full time. Ruth challenges every area but then gives you solutions, ideas and action points which work. The first session we had was for 3 hours and then we received a follow up report within days. There was that much value and content that it took us 6 months to action. Everything Tech was an interesting place to work as the company employed a wide mix of people. The culture of the business was always relaxed but as we grew, building a balanced culture became difficult. RBC worked within the business for two years and placed culture at the heart of our growth strategy. We acknowledged we had to get the culture right to attract and retain the right staff. Over a two year period, I observed RBC remove toxic people, create values and beliefs which were balanced and fair for the staff and the customers. They implemented a culture and wellbeing strategy which focused on creating a fun but challenging working environment, rewards and opportunities for all staff (not just sales) and a retention plan which took the whole team on the growth journey. Some of the staff incentives were epic! We had our own "Wheel of Achievement", quarterly all team socials and even beers after 4pm to celebrate the successes of the week. It is without question that the culture RBC created helped the business to grow and made us very attractive to the buyers who bought the business in 2022.
